In a move that has caught the eyes of American League playoff contenders, the surprising Baltimore Orioles have called up their 19 year old pitching phenom Dylan Bundy just in time for their matchup with the Seattle Mariners this evening. Bundy was selected with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2011 draft and has showed flashes of dominance in the minor leagues since his arrival in the Orioles system. MLB.com recently re-ranked their list of top 100 prospects and Bundy found his name as the top pitching prospect in all of baseball and No. 2 overall. The 2013 free agent outfielders’ class is more robust then many of the other positions this coming offseason. With stars like Josh Hamilton, Curtis Granderson and Michael Bourn potentially becoming available there will be a plethora of options and skill sets to choose from as general manager. Josh Hamilton is the cream of the crop. When healthy Hamilton’s offensive production is second to none. He has hit .292 with 35 home runs and 111 RBI in just 120 games so far this season. The 2013 third base free agent class has some potential compared some of the other infield positions. David Wright’s contract option will be picked up without question. Chipper Jones has been adamant that he will retire at the end of the season. I don’t see him going back on this and if he did he would never sign anywhere other than Atlanta. Orlando Hudson signed with the Minnesota Twins at 1 year $5 million. Hudson is a four time Gold Glove winner and hit .283 with 9 homers, 8 stolen bases and 35 doubles last year for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hudson will be taking over for Nick Punto allow him to move over and share time with Brendan Harris at 3rd base. The Seattle Mariners have continued their busy off season by re-signing ace pitcher Felix Hernandez to a long-term deal. The deal is rumored to be a 5-year deal worth $80 million. The Mariners were able to avoid the arbitration process with this new deal as Hernandez was rumored to be looking for $10 million in arbitration this season. This new deal keeps Hernandez in Seattle until at least the 2014 season and should put the trade rumors with the Boston Red Sox to rest. In a bold and surprising move the Cincinnati Reds scooped up the young fire baller Aroldis Chapman in a reported 5 year $30 million deal. Cincinnati general manager Walt Jocketty has yet to return phone messages to comment on the reported acquisition of Chapman. But it still comes as a surprise if it’s the Reds who signed Chapman, as the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Yankees and Angels were believed to be the front-runners for the lefty’s services, according to recent reports. The Texas Rangers have come to terms with DH/OF Vladimir Guerrero on a one-year deal with a club option for 2011. The deal is rumored to be for between $5.5 and $6 million for next year with a $1 million buyout should the Rangers not exercise their club option for 2011.
