After a brief hiatus, it is time to take a look at the next part of our fantasy preview series and focus on some potential sleepers for the upcoming season. Every year fantasy owners are on the lookout for players that have the element of surprise and often times those players are found in the late rounds of your draft. This year there is no shortage of players from each league that have the potential to surprise and reward fantasy owners for drafting them. Here is a look at some sleeper candidates in the American League for 2010. Brandon Wood (3B) Los Angeles Angels – The former first round pick of the Angels in 2003, is finally ready to receive [...]

Larry Stone of The Seattle Times is reporting that the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners are set to unload a pair of bad contracts on each other with a trade involving Milton Bradley (OF) going to the Mariners in exchange for starting pitcher Carlos Silva (SP). No word yet on how the money will shake out for both teams as I doubt the Cubs are going to take on $3 million more over two years for Silva’s services. The Cubs have been in the news all offseason with their desire to unload their mistake from last season in Bradley. However, the Cubs had much difficulty finding someone to take Bradley off of their hands due to his large contract and [...]

SI.com’s Jon Heyman tweeted that the Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies, and Seattle Mariners have agreed to a blockbuster three-team trade involving aces Roy Halladay (RHP) and Cliff Lee (LHP). As part of the trade, the Phillies would receive Halladay with Lee going to the Mariners. Todd Zolecki of MLB.com verifies Heyman’s report and says it is not known yet what each team will receive in the deal. I expect the Blue Jays will receive a few top prospects in the deal in return for a pitcher of Halladay’s caliber. The Phillies are rumored to be working on a contract extension with Halladay, as he is due to become a free agent after this upcoming season. Ironically enough, the Phillies were interested [...]

Lyle Spencer of MLB.com says that Vladimir Guerrero (OF, DH) is seeking a 2-year deal and would like to stay in Los Angeles because that is where is his family has settled. Guerrero has been one of the most consistent sluggers in the game. Prior to 2009 for twelve consecutive years he hit at least .300 and had 25 or more homers for eleven straight seasons. However, Guerrero’s number took a dip in 2009 with a .295 BA and 15 homers. He has had a number of health problems through out the years as well. Just last year, he came into the season having recovered from knee surgery and took two trip to the DL for a leg issue and a torn [...]

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that free agent third basemen Chone Figgins is on the verge of signing a four-year deal for $36 million with the Seattle Mariners. Figgins is coming off a season where he was awarded with his first trip to the All-Star Game. In 2009, Figgins had arguably the most productive season of his career with 5 HR, 54 RBI, .298 BA, 114 R, 42 SB, and an OBP of .395. He also led the AL with 101 walks. Over his career, Figgins has been a versatile member of the Angels’ roster. He has seen time at numerous positions including second base, third base, shortstop, and the entire outfield. He is known mostly as a singles hitter as 141 of [...]
