June 8th, 2010 is a date that baseball fans should circle on their calenders and remember for a long time as a pair of phenoms are set to make their major league debuts this evening. Stephen Strasburg (RHP) of the Washington Nationals and Mike Stanton (OF) of the Florida Marlins are both set to make their highly anticipated debuts for their respective clubs this evening. Both men come with much fanfare as they currently are viewed as the consensus top pitching and hitting prospects in all of baseball. Last June, the Nationals selected Strasburg with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 draft where he was viewed by many as the best amateur pitcher of all-time with a fastball [...]

In the first two months of this 2010 season, a few dazzling pitching performances have stole the headlines and caught the attention of many baseball fans. Through June 2nd, baseball fans have been treated with 2 perfect games from the likes of Oakland A’s lefty Dallas Braden and Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Roy Halladay, along with one no-hitter from Cy Young candidate Ubaldo Jimenez of the Colorado Rockies. It is rare enough to see these kinds of pitching performances over the course of one season, but in a two months span it is simply remarkable. Earlier today, Armando Galarraga (RHP) of the Detroit Tigers almost became the 3rd pitcher this season to throw a perfect game as he was a mere [...]

The Arizona Diamondbacks and right fielder Justin Upton have agreed to a 6-year $51.25 million deal. This deal is the second largest in club history. The contract buys out Upton’s arbitration years and his first two eligible years of free agency. Upton said he considered going year by year in arbitration and eventual free agency before choosing security. He probably would have made more money if he went year to year. Upton has a bright future ahead of him. At 22-years-old Upton has drawn comparisons with many Hall of Fame caliber players such as Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. He broke out last season with a .300 batting average, 26 home runs, 86 RBI and 20 stolen bases. While the [...]

The most exciting time in the baseball offseason is upon us with next week’s annual Winter Meetings (December 7-10, Indianapolis, IN). The Winter Meetings is where we start to see teams shape their rosters for the upcoming season. The meetings are filled with plenty of rumors as general managers and agents from all of baseball convene and discuss free agents and trade possibilities. Last year’s meetings were rather slow compared to previous years. The biggest talk of last year’s meetings was the near trade of San Diego Padres pitcher Jake Peavy (currently of the Chicago White Sox) to the Chicago Cubs. The state of our economy played a big role in teams not being as aggressive at last year’s meetings, [...]

Lynn Henning of The Detroit News speculates that Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers first basement, is also available for trade this off season. In an effort to shed payroll the Tigers seem to have put any and all of their talent on the block. The Tigers would have to be overwhelmed to consider trading the keystone to their lineup but if the price is right anything is possible. Cabrera’s hitting skills are second to none in the Major Leagues. Over the past 3 years, Cabrera has averaged 35 HRS, 116 RBIs, .312 BA, and an OPS of .931. He is only 26 years old and is signed through 2014. Cabrera is a difference maker but he has the price tag that comes with that [...]
