Today the White Sox inked third basemen Mark Teahen to a three year deal at $14 million. Under the terms, Teahen will receive $3.75 million in 2010, $4.75 million in 2011 and $5.5 million in 2012. He was eligible for free agency following the 2011 season.
Teahen hit .271, 34 doubles, 12 home runs and 50 RBI in 144 games with Kansas City in 2009. He played the majority of his games at third base but also bounced between right field and second base. He was originally acquired by the White Sox from Kansas City on November 6 in exchange for infielders Chris Getz and Josh Fields.
Teahen in someways is a head scratcher to many White Sox fans. He does provide them with a left handed bat that they are sorely lacking but his numbers have never been that great and it seems they gave up a lot for his services. Chris Getz preformed well in his first season in the majors and was starting to look like a viable lead off candidate with 25 stolen bases.
I personally think the Teahen will just be a stop gap and later a super sub once some Dayan Viciedo or Brent Morel develop. What do you think of this move by Kenny Williams? Is he depending on Teahen to be the everyday third basemen for the Sox the next three years?
Kenny drives me up a wall…does the guy understand that his team needs a first basemen, a shortstop (unless they are planning to move bacon over there), a centerfielder, and a right fielder. How about a left fielder that will stay healthy? So far kenny has picked up garbage this off season
why do they need a shortstop? Alexei Ramirez did fine. Rios can play center field and Konerko is ok at first base. Beckham is better for second then third. They need a Left Fielder and some left handed power the most.
Pauly is old and terrible and when he finally gets on base its station to station, Rios has been an under-achiever his entire career, didn’t it feel like alexei made and error every game at short and how many times is he going to strike out this year? Beckham needs to stay at 3rd…stop moving him around. How about some OPS guys with some speed and ability to play D
I think Beckham will be more valuable at 2nd base in the long run. His offensive skill set it better then most at that position. Also 3rd base tends to have more availability throughout the years both in free agency and with prospects like Viciendo and Morel.
