Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the White Sox have signed Andruw Jones to a 1 year deal at $500k with incentives up to $1 million.
This is a great low risk high reward situation for the White Sox. Jones in recent history has not performed up to his standard with the Atlanta Braves but he still has that potential. Jones is 32 and hit .214 with 17 HR and 43RBI in 281 plate appearances with the Texas Rangers last season. Many people don’t see Jones as an everyday player any more. His work ethic has been called into question and there has been concern about weight gain and showing up to spring training in shape. Now the question is Jones going to see regular playing time in center field/DH, or does Kenny Williams have something else up his sleeve?
Update: According to ESPN the White Sox are not looking at Jones as a starting outfielder.
